Life has been full of turbulent change- some of it good if not a bit frustrating. New city, new school, new friends, new job, new goals, new projects, new aspirations. New, new, more fucking new. All of which is exciting, to say the least, but not super conducive to making art or being sane.
Fortunately, via the forced circumstance of a 7 hour figure painting class with a brilliant instructor at the community college, I've been able to eek out a few paintings I've been happy with amid all this nonsense and change.
Whats more ridiculous is that I've dived back in to the amazing world of music. Honestly, music is my fortress of solitude when it comes to creative fields. There is no other medium I work in where I feel more gratified and generally happy. The 4 year hiatus I took from music has resulted in a 6 month mental dam breaking and flooding of my room mate's Macbook hard drive with new projects. My room mate (a previous band mate of mine) took a similar break and has the same fiendish drive to make more and more music. As a result we now have 3 separate studio band projects and plan on having a compilation demo out in time for Christmas, as gifts for all our friends. This has easily been the best part of my move.
Despite the new and ever shifting set of circumstances I've thrown myself into, I've managed to remain relatively stable and happy. This is a big deal, as stability and happiness in the face of change has not, historically, been my forte. If anything, the mental fortitude I gained from living in some pretty terrible situations in San Francisco has been my saving grace throughout these tumultuous last couple of months. I only hope that life evens out and I can use my toughened up head space to get some real work done.
Enough vagaries and allusions for now. Just thought I'd let you know I'm alive and somewhere.
